FIRE DAMAGED NORTH END
OF BISMARCK THURSDAY

Published by THE LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River,
St. Francois Co. MO, Fri. Feb. 21, 1930.

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed five buildings on the north end of Main Street, in Bismarck Thursday night about 11 o'clock. Two of the buildings were occupied and three were vacant.

The fire started in the building occupied by Thos. Clanin with his barber shop and spread rapidly. The second occupied building, also occupied by Clanin, was a photograph studio. The Bismarck Hotel, although continuously threatened, escaped serious damage. The Lead Belt Fire Truck, called when the seriousness of the fire was realized, made a quick trip to Bismarck and its presence undoubtedly saved the hotel from more extensive damage, possibly destruction.

This is the second disastrous fire in Bismarck within the past few months. The city recently voted bonds to construct a water system, and a contract has been let on this job. The also have funds with which to purchase a fire truck. It is unfortunate that the blaze should come just at this time because of that fact.
