HULSEY AGENCY, INC., FARMINGTON, MISSOURI
[formerly known as Hulsey & Gower / Gower Insurance Agency]

gower_insurance_office.jpg (55250 bytes)
The above photo which was contributed by Cathy Hill is of Christopher Columbus Gower, also known as C. C. Gower, at work in his office known as the Gower Insurance Agency located at #8 S. Jefferson Street, Farmington, Missouri.  The name of the young woman in the picture is unknown at this time.   Christopher Columbus Gower was son of John Wesley & Harriet (Sikes) Gower.   He died March 11, 1949, and was married to Lacy G. Garner, daughter of Dan & Dora (Meyer) Garner.    In 1946, Cecil M. Hulsey began work as a solicitor for the C. C. Gower Insurance Company.  Below is an exterior view of the building (contributed also by Cathy Hill) as it probably appeared in the mid to late 1940's.   The building which housed the Gower Insurance Agency later became the entrance to the  offices of the Roberts & Roberts Law Firm which were located upstairs for many years. Cecil Hulsey founded his own real estate-insurance company in 1956 and moved to 32 East Liberty Street, Farmington, Missouri, where his offices are located today.   See advertisement below which was published in the Farmington Evening Press on Monday, March 19, 1979.

The above photo looking East depicts where S. Jefferson Street
crosses W. Columbia Street.  The entrance to Gower Insurance
Office, would be down the sidewalk to the right from the corner
where the building with the arched entrance appears above. That
building later became known as the Roberts Building
and is situated at corner of W. Columbia and S. Jefferson
Streets in Farmington, Missouri. The Courthouse Square is out of
view just to the left in this photo.
