The regular May term of circuit court convened Monday, May 13 with all officers
present.
On Monday afternoon no less than eight persons entered pleas of guilty and were given
penitentiary sentences. They were: Chas. FULKERSON and Frank ANDERSON, who plead guilty to
stealing brass from the Columbia Lead company's store room on Mar. 30 and James DOTSON to
receiving the stolen property, each receiving a sentence of two years; Robert C. BLACK,
for resisting arrest and shooting the night marshall of Elvins getting five years; Ora
DENNIS was given two years for stealing a team from Woodward's livery barn and selling it
at DeSoto; George KETCHERSIDE was given two years for shooting at John BOARMAN, a
bartender at the Spider saloon on February 20; Geo. BRESSER got five years for trying to
pass a forged, or raised, check at the People's bank of Flat River on March 22, and Barney
TUFFIN got two years for burglarizing Goff's store at Leadwood.
Arthur THOMPSON, who stabbed Willis NEAL to death at Tucker's saloon in Elvins on
September 30, 1906, was adjudged insane by a jury on Wednesday and will be sent to the
State hospital for the insane.
The other proceedings, briefly stated, were as follows:

F. J. KIM appointed official court stenographer.
C. E. WEST, W. E. FITE, Emil DAVID and F. WATTS excused as petit jurors on account of
sickness.
Grand jury returned as follows: G. M. SIMMS, R. E. EVENS, Hartford THOMSON, John C.
EAVES, J. H. DOUGLASS, C. P. BURCH, D. M. TEMPLETON, Cecil NORWINE, A. B. SHELLY, L. G.
YATES, M. L. DOUGHTY, and Rufus SHANER. M. L. DOUGHTY is appointed foreman.
Ordered that second Tuesday of each term be set aside to hear applications for
citizenship.
Bonds of J. P. CAYCE as secretary and Wm. M. HARIAN as treasurer of the Farmington Home
Building and Loan association filed and approved.
CRIMINAL CASES.
State vs. Jacob NOLAND, murder, set for May 28.
State vs. Wm. THURMAN, assault with intent to kill, set for May 30.
State vs. George BRESSER, forgery, two cases; plea of guilty and sentenced to five
years in penitentiary as to one and continued generally as to other case.
State vs. Arthur THOMPSON, muder, adjudged insane by jury, to be returned for trial
when cured.
State vs. Chas. FULKERSON et al., burglary and larceny; State dismisses cause of
burglary, plea of guilty to grand larceny entered by both Chas. FULKERSON and Frank
ANDERSON and each given a two-year sentence in the penitentiary.
State vs. James DOTSON, receiving stolen property, plea of guilty and sentenced to two
years in penitentiary.
State vs. Cleve STEEL, larceny, dismissed by State.
State vs. Martin FORSHEE, rape, dismissed by State.
State vs. Ora DENNIS, grand larceny, plea of guilty and sentenced to two years in
penitentiary.
State vs. Barney TUFFIN, burglary and larceny; State dismissed charge of burglary; plea
of guilty to grand larceny and sentenced to two years in penitentiary.
State vs. Robert C. BLACK, assault with intent to kill, plea of guilty and sentenced to
five years in penitentiary.
State vs. George KETCHERSIDE, felonious assault, two cases; plea of guilty and
sentenced to two years in the penitentiary on one case; other case continued generally.

Wm. YINGLING vs. Harver THURMAN, appeal from J. P. court, trial by jury and verdict for
defendant.
E. A. TIMS vs. Ill. Sou. Ry., appeal from J.P. court, continued at cost of defendant.

The appeal cases of L. N. KIRKPATRICK and Luther KIRKPATRICK vs. St. Louis, I.M. &
So. Ry. were settled and dismissed.
Lee DENNIS vs. I. MILLER, appeal, dismissed.
Snyder-Tullock vs. J. C. LONG, appeal, continued for want of appeal.
S. DOWELL vs. School District No. 16, appeal; trial by jury and verdict for plaintiff
for $74.
F. I. TETLEY vs. R. G. POSTON et al., note, adjusted and dismissed in vacation.
