Sergeant Firman Eugene Pettus of the United States Army was killed in action in Korea on July 9, 1952. Sgt. Pettus was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Firman Pettus of Bonne Terre.

Sgt. Pettus would have observed his 22nd birthday on July 22, 1952. He was serving with the 35th Infantry Regiment in Korea and had been with that regiment for six months. He was on patrol when he was struck by fragments from an enemy motor.

Sgt. Pettus was inducted into service Aug. 9, 1951, and took his basic training at Fort Riley, Kan. Prior to that time he was employed at Drier Motor Co., and Moran Milling Co., of Bonne Terre.
