     Frank A. Filkins served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army 3529th Maintenance under General Patton in France.  He served in the Army from 1943-1945.  He landed on Omaha Beach on June 12, 1944 on the Queen Mary, which had 17,700 servicemen on board.

     In November 1991 he was presented an award for Veteran of the Year from Amvets Post 48, DeSoto and received a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol July 4, 1991.

     He was home on leave waiting to go to Japan when the war ended in 1945.
