Death claimed another of our old and respected citizens Friday, March 17, 1933, when Paris E. Wood of near Berryman, a Civil War Veteran, passed away after a short illness. Mr. Wood came to Washington County in 1869, and has lived here since that time, engaging in farming. He was born in Crawford County, Indiana, in 1846, and attended the public schools there until 18 years of age, when he enlisted in Co. D, 144th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, Union Army. He served to the close of the war, and in 1866 entered the Indiana State University, remaining there for over two years. He then moved to Washington County, Mo., where he lived the remainder of his life. He taught school 13 terms and then engaged in farming.
In 1872, Mr. Wood was united in marriage to Miss Anna Hanson and to this union seven children were born, five of whom survive him. His wife died in August, 1917. The children are: P. A. Wood, Miss Iza Wood and Mrs. Olive Gilliam of Berryman, Loy E. Wood of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Alice Parker of Waco, Texas.
Mr. Wood was a member of the Christian church and was one of our most highly respected citizens, a good neighbor and loving father. He will be missed by all who know him.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church on Sunday, March 19, by the Rev. J. Morgan Harris of Flat River, assisted by Rev. E. F. Shannon of Farmington, and burial was in the Dobkin cemetery. We extend sympathy to the bereaved.
