The Smith Brothers

Five sons of Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Smith of Leadwood all served in the military service.  A news report of the day gives the following account:

There were: Cpt. Glen H. Smith of Biggs Field, Texas; Pfc. John M. Smith, M.P. serving in Africa; Pvt. William H. Smith of Shreveport, La; Pvt Charles E. Smith of San Diego, Calif,and Pvt Rubon A. Smith c/o Post Master, New York, N.Y.

Cpt Glen H. Smith enlisted on Nov. 11, 1942, received his basic training in Florida and Illinois and is now stationed in Texas.   {Note:   Please see individual article about Glen H. Smith also.}

Pfc. John M. Smith entered service on Feb. 15, 1941 and received his basic training at Camp Robinson, Ark, and is now in Africa.  His wife, the former Miss Izella Walsh, resides in Flat River.  He was the first to be drafted from St. Francois County, holding the first number to be called. 

Pvt. Wm. H. Smith enlisted on Jan. 22, 1941 and received his basic training in Kansas.  His wife is the former Miss Ethel Burton of Desloge.

Pvt. Charles E. Smith has been in service since November 9, 1943, and was sent to California for training.  His wife is the former Miss Priscilla Hatridge of Leadwood.   Prior to entering service he was employed by St. Joseph Lead Company.

Pvt. Rubon Smith entered service on Jan. 28, 1942 and received his basic training in Wyoming.  He is now stationed in Italy. {Note:  In another article his first name is spelled as "Ruben"}
