A FATAL ACCIDENT
Published by the DEMOCRAT-REGISTER, Bonne Terre, St. Francois Co. MO, Fri. Aug. 7, 1903.

Adron Smith, a widower with 2 children, and who is 35 years old, was killed in Doe Run Shaft No. 2, Thursday morning. Mr. Smith was taking down some roof when the loose dirt fell carrying him with it. He was horribly mashed under a heavy rock - a rock so large that it required seven men to remove it. Smith was an old employee of the company and was a valuable miner. He attended to the roof, an important job. He held the respect of his fellow employees and the confidence of the company. All are grieved at the fearful accident. Much excitement existed at the mines for a few hours until Coroner Evans arrived.

Smith was a member of Elvins Union No. 14 and his death benefit was promptly paid by hs local union. He was also a member of the A. O. U. W. lodge in which he held a $2000 policy. We sympathize with the bereaved.
