TWO MEN KILLED IN MINE ACCIDENT

     Harold Crepps, 38, of Esther, was killed Wednesday morning, June 21, at eleven o'clock in an accident underground at the Baker Mine of St. Joseph Lead Co., near Leadwood.  Homer Lee Patterson, 36 of Bonne Terre Route was seriously injured in the same accident.

      Loose back, sliding down a bluff, was the apparent cause of the accident, according to Company officials. Patterson has both legs broken, in addition to cuts and bruises, and is a patient in Bonne Terre Hospital. 

    Crepps had been employed by St. Joe the past 14 years.  He leaves a wife and three children.  The body is at the Raymond Caldwell & Son Funeral Home.

     At 3:30 p.m. today, as the Lead Belt News was going to press, it was learned that Patterson had just died in Bonne Terre Hospital.

    The Safety Department of the Company is conducting an investigation into the accident today and will have a complete report at a later date.


HAROLD R. CREPPS BURIED SATURDAY

      Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, June 24, at the First Baptist Church in Esther, for Harold Raymond Crepps, who lost his life in an accident at Baker mine near Leadwood, Wednesday, June 21.  The Rev. V. E. Defreece, pastor, conducted the services, and burial was in St. Francois Memorial Park, in charge of the Raymond Caldwell & Son Funeral Service.

    Born in Esther, Mo., February 2, 1923, he was a son of Rolla and Gladys (Ransom) Crepps and was aged 38 years 4 months 19 days at the time of death.

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy (Lucas) Crepps, four children:  Janet, Gary, Richie and Randy, of the home; also his parents, who reside in Esther; his grandfather, J. L. Ransom, and an uncle, Lloyd Crepps, both of Esther.

    Mr. Crepps was a veteran of World War II.

   HOMER LEE PATTERSON

    Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Desloge Saturday afternoon, June 24, for Homer Lee Patterson of Bonne Terre Route 1, who was fatally injured in an accident at the Baker mine near Leadwood, Wednesday, June 21, and died the same day in Bonne Terre Hospital.  Services were conducted by the Rev. Ronald E. Wood, Jr., of St. Louis, assisted by the Rev. Able, pastor of the Esther Methodist Church.  Burial was in St. Francois Memorial Park.  C. Z. Boyer & Son Service of Desloge.

   Mr. Patterson, son of Marvin and Cora May (Straughan) Patterson, was born June 1, 1925, on Bonne Terre Route 2, and at the time of his death was aged 36 years 20 days.

    On October 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Beulah May Weiss, who survives with two daughters, Sharon Elaine and Vickie Lynn, both of the home.   He also leaves his parents, who reside on Bonne Terre Route 1; five brothers:   Roscoe V. Patterson, Detroit, Mich.; Winfred L. Patterson, Bonne Terre Route 1; Harvey L. Patterson, Ferguson, Mo.; James E. Patterson, Wichita, Kan., and J. Clyde Patterson, Desloge, and a sister, Ruth (Mrs. Shelton) Pinkston, Farmington Route 3, besides other relatives and many friends.
