EARL DOWNS KILLED AT FEDERAL MINE WHEN "JIM" POLE BREAKS

Earl Downs of Flat River was killed last Friday afternoon about 2:30 while at his work in Federal. He was engaged in helping his fellow workers raise mine cars out of the mines, when the jim pole to which the block and tackle was attached, broke, the heavy mine car and jim pole crashing to the ground, striking him and causing injuries from which he died.

An inquest was held at Jos. Niemer's Undertaking Parlor Friday afternoon and the verdict of the coroner's jury was that death was caused by accident resulting in a fractured skull.

The deceased had been married only a short time and is survived by his grief-stricken widow.
