KILLED BY A HOG

A singular accident happened at Crawley Shaft mines, Flat River, last Saturday in which Sam Downes, a miner, lost his life. Downes was on the cage, about 300 feet below the surface, starting out after finishing his day's work, when a large hog jumped into the shaft and went to the bottom, striking Downes on the head and killing him instantly.
