KIEPE FAMILY REUNION
(Descendants of Conrad Kiepe)

The forty-ninth annual reunion of the descendants of the late Conrad Kiepe was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kiepe on Sunday, June 30, near Libertyville.

The late Conrad Kiepe imigrated to this country from Germany and with his wife settled on the farm which has been in the Kiepe name since then, and is now owned by a great-grandson, J. C. Kiepe and wife.

During the Civil War, Mr. Kiepe was seized by the Southern Army and held prisoner at Pilot Knob for some time. He and his first wife were the parents of five children: Theodore, Louise (Mrs. Carl) Gaebe, Rudolph, Pauline (Mrs. Jacob) Schmidt, and Conrad who remained on the farm until his death. The above named children are all deceased.

His first wife passed away & he was later married to Mrs. Margaret Strahlman who had 2 children by a former marriage. They were Dedrick Strahlman & Margaret (Mrs. Wm.) Detring. To this union were born three children: Anna (Mrs. Charles) Kleinschmidt, Lizzie (Mrs. J. C.) Ballard, and Henry Kiepe.

One of his favorite family sayings was "Your children & my children seem to get along with our children."

Grandpa Kiepe continued to live on the home place until 1918 when he passed away in his early nineties. Following his wife's death he was cared for by two granddaughters, Misses Lldia Gaebe and Lilly Kiepe. The reunion was held for many years at the home place.
