| The above photo was contributed to us by Ruth Carver. I'm not sure which local
newspaper the above photo which was published in, or exactly when it was published, but
the same photo was published in the Lead Belt News of Flat River, Missouri, on February 1,
1952, and in that publication it was indicated in caption that it was a photo of the
Seminary School in 1902 (however, it looks to me like the sign the little girl is holding
says 04, but I can't be sure). I believe this school was located somewhere around
Desloge, Missouri, in St. Francois County, but I don't know exactly where it was located.
The students are identified as follows: First Row: Spencer Harris, Alfard Gibson, Laurel Harris, Ida Sheppard, Alice Gibson, Tom Moore, Clyde Harris, Homer Wells, Edith Merritt. Second Row: Les Gibson, John Gibson, Viola Merritt, Cecil Moore, Annie Walker, Rose Deathard, Harril Walker, Birdie Harris, Reed Brent, Lela Blue. Third Row: Talbert Merritt, Ethel Snyder, Lemon Cook, Tennie Deathard, Celura Gibson, Sallie Merritt, Ella Moore, Lillie Sheppard, Marvin Cook. Fourth Row: Alice Conway, Pearl Highley, Claude Wells, Myrtle Cook, Jewell Merritt, Wendell Herod, Ollie Brent, Lena Brent, Bessie Jennings (Mrs. I. W. Shaner), teacher.
