DOE RUN, MISSOURI
St. Francois County

doerun_feature1.jpg (59353 bytes)
Named after the large number of salt licks and the plentiful amount of deer in the area, what would later become known as Doe Run was first occupied by the Osage Indians.   Evidence of large Native American villages may still be found. When the first settlers moved near the water and cleared land in the early 1820's, orchards and farms were platted by the founding families.
