ROBERT BLACK SHOTS DEPUTY MARSHAL JUSTICE AT ELVINS

    Tuesday afternoon Deputy Marshal Emmet [Emmett] Justice of Elvins was shot twice by Robert Black in the street at Elvins after he had arrested Black.  The latter was drunk and Deputy Justice had just placed him under arrest.  Justice was unarmed and was holding Black's right arm.  Suddenly Black drew a revolver from his left hip pocket and fired five shots in rapid succession.  Two of the bullets took effect in Justice's side and shoulder and one passed through Black's right arm.   Though badly wounded the officer knocked Black down and disarmed him.  Marshal Ratly was in the opposite end of town but came to his deputy's assistance and took charge of Black who was later lodged in jail at Farmington.  Deputy Justice had his injuries attended by Dr. Perkins and went to his home.  The Doctor says the wounds, while serious, are not to be fatal.  Black lives in Elvins and has a family. ---Lead Belt News.
