AN AFFRAY BETWEEN THE WORTHAM BROTHERS.

Two brothers named respectively James K. and
Smith Wortham, residing some three miles west of Irondale, have had a family quarrel on
hand for some time which culminated about a week since in a desperate fight. The
quarrel seems to have had its origin in a business transaction between them; they had been
at work in partnership in the coaling, as we are informed, and could not agree as to the
share to which each was entitled in the profits. On the day of the difficulty, James K.
Wortham went to the house of his brother and renewed the quarrel previously begun.-- High
words soon led to blows, and James assaulted his brother with a rock. Smith returned
the attack in true Indian style, with a dangerous looking club, and in about three well
directed rounds, laid the head of his affectionate brother on a line horizontal with his
feet, while he himself came out with some trifling bruises. Dr. Moore of Irondale
was summoned to the spot, and attended to the wounds of the injured man. At last
accounts he was reported as lying in a very critical condition. -- These two were
imprisoned in our county jail about a year since, and are brothers to the Wortham who
killed Simms a little previously to that time, near Irondale. No arrest made up to
yesterday evening, and Smith remained at home attending to his brother.
