HAPPY 107TH, ARTIE!

The following article was published in the Daily Journal of Park Hills, St. Francois County, Missouri, December 28, 1978, on the occasion of Artie's 107th Birthday:

After 107 birthdays, Mrs. Artie May Armon doesn't like to celebrate them. She is St. Francois County's oldest citizen according to officials at the Presbyterian Homelife in Farmington where she is a resident.

It was 107 years ago today that Mrs. Armon was born in Ste. Genevieve County. She lived most of her life in Bonne Terre and she and her husband had a daughter who is now deceased. Her only living relative is a nephew in Farmington, according to Edwin Short, administrator of Presbyterian Homelife. In her early days she was a teacher.

Mrs. Armon was presented with a rose corsage from Chuck's Butterfield Flowers and a decorated cake from Heck's IGA. Several friends and acquaintances were on hand to wish Mrs. Armon a happy birthday.

Local radio stations were to dedicate a song to her today and a letter of congratulations is expected from the White House.

Artie M. Armon, formerly of Bonne Terre, died Feb. 15 [1980], at the Farmington Community Hospital at the age of 108.

She was born Dec. 28, 1871, in Ste. Genevieve to the late John and Susanna Herod Byington. Her husband, Thomas Armon, preceded her in death [Apr.1926]. One daughter, Ethel Stockett preceded her in death.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the C. Z. Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, Saturday at 3 p.m. Chapel services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. L. E. Butler officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francois Memorial Park.
