ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

As you can see from the photos below there appears to be at least two other graves in the cemetery which are marked by field stones. I believe the parents of Josephine are most probably buried in this cemetery. Josephine was the daughter of Marmaduke and Adelphia Berkley. The following is found for this family in the 1850 census for St. Francois County, Marion Township:

Berkley, Marmaduke, age 62, white male, occupation farmer, born in Virginia
Berkley, Adelphia, wife, age 46, white female, born in Maryland
Berkley, John L. age 22, white male, occupation: carpenter, born in Kentucky
Berkley, Missouri E age 20, white female, born in Kentucky
Berkley, Thomas J., age 18, white male, occupation: laborer; born in Kentucky
Berkley, Catharine, age 16, white female, born in Kentucky
Berkley, Mary, age 12, white female, born in Kentucky
Berkley, Josephine, age 7, white female, born in Missouri.

By the 1880 Census, the parents have apparently died and all brothers and sisters (with exception of Catharine) have moved on. In the 1880 census, Josephine is living with her sister "Kity" (which we assume is nickname for Catharine). In the 1880 census Josephine is shown as being 36 and her sister is 46. Also found her brother, Thomas J. Berkley, living in Perry Township of St. Francois County. He is married and has a daughter he's named Josephine. His wife is named Ella, and he has the following children: Nannie, Lee, Josephine & Hugh.

I assume that Marmaduke must have died between 1850 and 1860, because he's not listed on 1860 census. In 1860 Edolphia (Adelphia ?) is shown as head of the household. She is 54 years old, and was born in Maryland. Also living with her is Thomas J., age 28, Catharine, age 26 and Joseaphine (sic), age 15. In the 1870 census, Joseaphine's place of birth is shown as Kentucky, but in 1850 census it's shown as Missouri. In the 1850 census, Marmaduke Berkley is designated as being a slaveholder.

In Kentucky Marriage Licenses for Nelson County, Kentucky, I find the following:
Marmaduke Berkley & Adelfa Linthicum - Marriage 01 Jun 1824.

In database of War of 1812 Service Records, I find a Marmaduke Berkley listed as a Private in 2 Regiment (Thoma's) Mounted, Kentucky Volunteers.

Sister Catherine "Kitty" Berkley was born on Feb. 25, 1834, and died April 4, 1929. She is buried at the Masonic Cemtery in Farmington, Missouri. Also buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Farmington is brother Thomas J. Berkley (1831-1911) and his wife Ella M. Berkley (1840-1902).
