BONNE TERRE CHURCH OF GOD |
Exact figures are not available, but about the year 1918 the Church of God of Bonne Terre, Mo., was first organized. Rev. F. A. Hambrick officiated at the organization meeting and served as the first pastor of the church.
In 1930 the St. Joseph Lead Company donated the ground on which the church stands [corner of Jackson and Benham Streets] and the building was erected the same year at a cost of $1,500.
Only three of the original charter members are still living. Mrs. Janie Cash, Mrs. Florence Politte and Mrs. Melissa Whitley.
Pastors who served the congregation after the administration of Rev. Hambrick were Revs. Ed Sells, F. Harwood, Cary Stranger, G. P. Gower, H. Rash, I. H. Marks, and the present pastor, Rev. J. O. Yates.
The church has an active membership at the present time of 116 and holds a Sunday School each Sunday with an average attendance of 100.
