In the year 1867 the Methodist Episcopal Church of Farmington was first organized under the guiding influence of Rev. W. S. Giddins [Giddings]. Soon after the organization meeting the church edifice was erected and this building was some years later sold and now is used as an Auto Parts Shop.
The present structure was erected in 1903 at a cost of $24,000. The lot on which the structure stands was purchased at a cost of $3,000.
It is believed that none of the original charter members are still living. The first official board members were Henry Carleton, John Cobb, Davis Marks, Wm. A. Connelley, Micajah Stone, Ruben Dalton, Elias M. Wyant and Joseph Casher.
Pastors who have served the congregation since the administration of Rev. Giddings are, in the order they served: Revs. W. A. Coucher, J. C. H. Hobbs, Daniel Ayers, Luther Daniels, J. Wesley Johnson, Newcomb, Parker, J. B. Lee, M. Bell, Wood, C. E. Heaton, W. M. Cresmer, J. J. Beckam, D. F. Stiles, Rev. Larrison, C. F. Miller, D. W. Crow, G. W. King, Brewington, J. J. Martin, W. R. McCormick, L. M. Thompson, J. W. Corah, A. A. Halter, H. A. Mitchell, W. S. Courtney, R. H. Lint, E. C. Wadlow, W. H. Layton, W. K. Chatten, and the present pastor, Rev. E. Barrett. N.
The present structure has a seating capacity of 300 in regular pews and by the use of additional chairs can seat 550. Present membership numbers 467, of whom 65 are non-residents. The average Sunday School attendance is placed at 180, with 18 teachers.
Note: In about 1950, the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church South, of Farmington, which were located just two blocks apart, voted to unify and thus became one church.
