| COFFMAN -- You almost can't tell from the outside of Old Pine
Log Church the damage the storms caused April 27. But if you step inside the church, located off Route WW near Coffman, you'll see the damage two oak trees did to the 134-year-old church building. The roof, front door, ceiling and rafters were damaged when two gigantic old oak trees fell on the building. Workers have already begun repairing the damage. They have already cut up the oak trees, repaired the door, and the roof has been covered. Old Pine Log Church hasn't been used regularly for church services since members outgrew the church in the mid-1950s. During that time, the congregation moved just across the street to a larger building. But the old church still remains a community gathering place for group meetings, weddings, birthdays and family reunions. With a roof on the building and the door repaired, a family gathering will be there this weekend. Cathy Thompson, a church member, said many members of the community have offered to donate their time and labor. Donations for roof and ceiling repairs can be mailed to Old Pine Log Church Fund, c/o Bob Gonz, 12708 Avon Road, Farmington, MO 63640. By T. RESSEL\Daily Journal Staff Writer |
