JOHN DOOLEY NEAR DEATH
St. Francois Herald, Jan. 8, 1902.

John Dooley, who was badly wounded in the Dooley - Harris shooting at Doe Run on August 4th, 1899 [sic 1900], is reported to be very low, from the effect of his wounds.  In fact, his death is look[ed] for at any hour.  One of the bullets lodged near the spinal cord from which John's lower limbs were paralyzed for some time, and he has never been able to walk alone since the shooting.  During last summer, however, he was much improved and hopes for his ultimate recovery were entertained.
