FIVE COUNTY MEN TO MILITARY SERVICE

Five volunteers, passing the medical examination last week, were the first men from St. Francois County to be inducted into the selective military training program.

The men chosen were:

William Leslie Bates - Iron Mountain
Floyd Newton Hill - Bismarck
William Thurman Mattingly - Route No. 1 Elvins
Edgar Clyde Lewis - Farmington
John Nazarik - Bonne Terre

In honor of these men a supper was served them and the members of the Selective Board last evening at Carver's Cafe and a special program was given with W. A. Deneke, superintendent of the Flat River schools, discussing the "Protection of Our Liberty." The roll call of selective men introduced them to the audience and the transportation orders were delivered to the leader, William Leslie Bates.
