Alphonse Beaudin was born March 30th, 1844 near Montreal, Canada and lived there until his early manhood when he came to the United States in 1865, locating at Iron Mountain, Mo., remaining resident of that place until 1894, then removing with his family to this community where he resided until his death Thursday evening August 16th, 1917, aged 74 years 4 months and 17 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Wood on the 17th day of December 1867 and to this union six children were born: Frances M. (Mrs. Bart Eaton of Flat River), William, Jules, Agnes, Nellie (Mrs. Charles Miles of Flat River) and Walter. Four of the children and his wife survive him. Agnes dying in infancy and Walter in early manhood.
Mr. Beaudin was a veteran of the Civil War. He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1870 of which order he has always been an honored and faithful member. In 1887 he became a member of the Masonic Fraternity and was a loyal and devoted member of this society until his death. He recently united with the Taylor Avenue Methodist Church of Flat River. He was well preserved physically and his temperate life without excess of speech or habit was its secret. He was diligent and punctual in the discharge of his duties, a devoted and affectionate husband and father. In his social nature he was pleasant, quiet and retiring in disposition. As a citizen he was esteemed by the entire community.
After several months illness and realizing that the end was near he committed himself to his Maker and was ready for the time of his departure. The burial service was held from the Methodist Church, Sunday afternoon by Rev. Morse H. Markley, assisted by Rev. W. J. Velvick at two o'clock and the remains laid to rest in the Park View Cemetery [near Farmington].
