CLARENCE RADLE KILLED IN ACTIONClarence Radle, 32, second son of Mrs. Mollie Radle of Bonne Terre, was killed in action while serving his country. Mrs. Radle was notified of her son's death Wednesday, when she received the following telegram from Rear-Admiral Randall Jacobs, Chief of Naval Personnel, Arlington, Va. No date or cause of his death was given. "The Navy Department deeply regrets to inform you that your son, Clarence Howard Radle, firemen first class, U.S. Naval Reserve, was killed in Action in the performance of his duty and in the service of his country. The department extends to you its sincerest sympathy in your great loss. On account of existing conditions, the body if recovered cannot be returned at present. If further details are received you will be informed." Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in June 1942 and was sent to Great Lakes, Ill., for basic training. From there he was sent to New York Harbor where he was assigned to convoy duty. He was in the Mediterranean area for several months and was in the first attack on Sicily. He was home on leave six weeks ago. Following his return to his station he was again sent out to sea on convoy duty. Clarence Howard Radle, son of Mrs. Mollie Radle and the late John Radle, was born in Bonne Terre, September 2, 1911. He was educated in the local Public Schools. Besides his mother, Clarence is survived by two children, Patsy and Donald Radle of Bonne Terre; three sisters, Reva (Mrs. Claud Mabery) of Desloge; Ethel (Mrs. Edwin Calman) Sturgis, Ky.; Helen (Mrs. Pete Falk) of Bonne Terre; three brothers, Carl of Canada, Stanfil and Ed of Bonne Terre.
