DEATH OF OLD VETERAN

Columbus Chandler, a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home in Bonne Terre at noon on Friday, March 22nd [1918], of senility. Deceased was 72 years old, and was confined to his bed but a short time, death coming rather suddenly from the immediate effects of heart disease.

For about thirty years, Mr. Chandler was in the employ of the St. Joseph Lead Co., being a pensioner of that company at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and three children, several grandchildren and many friends. T. B. Chandler, a good farmer and mail carrier on route 3, is a brother of deceased, and sat up with him during his last night on earth.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, and the remains were laid to rest in the Bonne Terre cemetery. Capt. W. A. Kennedy, Dick Adams and Ada Hopkins attended the last sad rites as representatives of the G. A. R. Post of this city, of which Mr. Chandler was a member.
