Tuesday's papers printed in their casualty lists the name of Private Jesse R. Lovvorn, of 2519 Marcus avenue, St. Louis, as being among the severely wounded in action in France. His picture appeared in one of the morning papers. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. I. Lovvorn of Doe Run, where he was born and reared. However, he had made his home in St. Louis for four or five years previous to his enlistment in the army, where he was in business as a barber with his brother, Roy.
He enlisted soon after war was declared in what was then known as the Fifth Missouri Infantry, which was later merged with the First Militia Regiment into the present 138th Regiment.
Jesse has four uncles living in Elvins, Calvin, Grant, William and Hugh Lovvorn, and has many other relatives and friends in the Lead Belt who hope for his early recovery.
Another casualty of the 138th Regiment of recent date and local interest is that of Wm. Rosenstengel, also a former resident of Doe Run, who was reported Friday of last week as having been seriously wounded. The report was circulated early this week that he had died, but has not been verified. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rosenstingle, still reside at Doe Run.
