DR. WATKINS HOME AFTER TWO YEARS AT THE FRONT

The course of lectures that were being given at the Domestic Science building, on home hygiene and the care of the sick, were discontinued this week for the reason that Mrs. Geo. Watkins, who was giving part of these lectures, was called to St. Louis Monday to meet her husband, Dr. George Watkins, who has just returned from France, where he served with the hospital corps for almost two years.

Dr. Watkins had been a well-known practicing physician in Farmington prior to his entering the service. He is a graduate of the Washington University Medical School and had since been held in reserve for military hospital work, in case need should arise. Early in his career as a physician he had served in some of the military hospitals in the United States.

Dr. Watkins went to Europe shortly before the United States declared war on Germany, and went in answer to the call of England for war physicians. He had intended to do base hospital work, but was placed by the British in the first line trenches, where he did first aid work for a period of six months. He was then mustered into the American army, after which he was given base hospital work to do.

The first intimation Mrs. Watkins had that her husband was on American soil was conveyed to her by the telegram which she received Monday morning, saying he was in Richmond, Va., that he was leaving at once for St. Louis and that he would reach St. Louis, Tuesday. We have not been able to learn whether he is yet mustered out of the army, but it is assumed that he has been.

He will resume his residence and the practice of his profession in Farmington.

Note:  Dr. George Lancaster Watkins was the son of Dr. Charles Henderson Watkins.
