CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT BONNE TERRE
After an illness of two weeks' duration with pneumonia, Eli Henry of Farmington died in the Bonne Terre Hospital Friday, March 1, aged 76 years, 2 months and 2 days. During his illness his aged wife had been staying with her daughter, Mrs. John Townsley, who was Mrs. [sic] Henry's step-daughter, here in Flat River. It was decided to bring the remains to the Townsley home for the funeral, which was conducted at 9:00 o'clock Tuesday morning by Dr. H. A. Smoot.
Mr. Henry was a member of the Indiana Volunteers in 1861, and has been an active member of the G.A.R. His only near relatives left are his wife and one son, David Henry, who is a captain in the army and is stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia. This son was here for the funeral, but had only five days leave of absence. Interment was made in the cemetery at Delassus.

Mrs. Eli Henry, a pioneer citizen of this county, died at the home
of her son, Richard Carver, in Esther, Friday. The funeral service was conducted at Free
Will Baptist church of which she had been an honored and consistent member for more than
40 years. The sermon was preached by Rev. Ball. Her husband died in 1918.
Mrs. Henry is survived by four sons and two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Howell of St. Louis;
Richard Carver of Esther; George of St. Louis; Sam of Joplin and James of Flat River. She
also leaves a number of grandchildren. Three of them, Mrs. Tina Abbott, Miss Ella Black
and Miss Lena Carver of St. Louis were present at the funeral.
