Private First Class Eugene Vallo

The body of Private First Class Eugene Vallo, U.S. Marine corps., and son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vallo of 706 Benham St., arrived at Mineral Point on Thursday morning Jan. 8, 1952, being escorted from Jersey City, N.J., by Sgt. William Cooper. The body was met at Mineral Point by the family and the American Legion, from where it was escorted to the Benham Funeral Home.

The body was in state at Benham until Jan. 19, when at 9 a.m. a Requiem High Mass was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Richter officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.

Pfc. Vallo was born in Bonne Terre on February 24, 1932, and was killed in action in Korea along with five other men while taking supplies to the front lines on Oct. 27, 1952. He was 20 years of age. He attended the St. Joseph's Parochial grade school and graduated from the Bonne Terre High School with the class of 1950. Following his graduation, Eugene was employed in St. Louis and enlisted into the Marine Corps in January of 1951, receiving his basic training at San Diego, Calif. He was a member of the First Marine Division.
