22 FLAT RIVER BOYS IN FIFTH REGIMENT

Lieut. John E. Mitchell, Jr., of the Fifth Missouri, who has made several visits to Flat River recently in the interests of his regiment, is highly pleased with the results obtained here. So far the following 22 young men have successfully passed the physical examination and are now enrolled as members of Company F:

Walter Dempsey
Coleman Frazier
Lawrence Robinson
Henry Harris
Oscar Phillips
Lester Ferguson
Wm. E. Alexander
Lynn Dobbins
Lon Thurman
Albert E. Dalton
Lawrence Silvey
Grover L. Hood
Roy Ledbetter
Ollie C. Reeder
Leeman Coffman
Wm. Estes
Corbin McGee
Carl McGeorge
Wm. Gallagher
Barney Hart
L. R. Raymond
R. F. Kirkpatrick

The fact that by enlisting now, instead of waiting for the draft, the boys will be able to be together in one company is proving especially attractive. After the draft is made the boys called will be scattered throughout the different regiments and may not have the opportunity of associating with boys with whom they have been more or less associated for years.

Saturday, July 28, will be the last day in which young men will have the opportunity of enlisting without being drafted. Lieut. Mitchell will be in St. Francois county Friday and Saturday for the purpose of securing recruits for the Fifth Regiment. He will be at the St. Francois hotel in Farmington this evening (Friday) and will be at the Hammond Hotel in Flat River all day Saturday. Young men who are interested in this particular branch of the service and who feel reasonably certain of being drafted will do well to talk this matter over with Lieut. Mitchell tomorrow.

The following young men have enlisted in the Hospital corps of the Fifth Regiment: Marcus Kirkland and Wm. Freeman of Flat River; Clyde McGuire and Wm. Reichert of Elvins.

The Fifth Regiment will be mobilized in St. Louis, August 5. From there they will go to Fort Sills, Okla., for several months training.
