GLENWOOD E. ASHER

     Glenwood E. Asher, formerly of Elvins and now deceased, served as a private in the 179th Infantry Regiment in the Army.  He was stationed in southern France and Italy.  During his years of service he earned the Purple Heart, two bronze stars and an EAME ribbon. 

     According to information provided by Mrs. Gilbert Edgar, Mr. Asher was wounded in France on Sept. 9, 1944.  He lived with shrapnel near his heart for the rest of his life.  He died Feb. 1, 1992.
