Elmer J. Rigdon, of Farmington, served as a staff sergeant in the Army. 

He entered service on Sept. 12, 1942, from Jefferson Barracks.  He was sent to Fort Bliss, Texas, where he was assigned to the Coast Artillery.

 He was promoted to the rank of corporal in January 1943 and changed from the coast artillery to the anti-aircraft auto weapons battalion.  In May 1944 he was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant and was in maneuvers in Texas and Louisiana.

 He was sent overseas in February 1944.  He was in England until July 12, 1944, when he went to France with the Fourth Armored Division of Gen. Patton's Third Army.

 Staff Sgt. Rigdon received along with his two division two commendations for action at Avranchos and Bastogne.
