W. H. Conrad, an aged citizen of Elvins and a veteran of the Civil War, having fought on the Union side during that conflict, died at his home Thursday following an illness of several months duration. He had been afflicted with cancer of the stomach. His age was 74 years, 5 months and 13 days. He had been a lifelong citizen of Southeast Missouri having been born in Bollinger County. He had been living in Elvins for 6 or 8 years.
The funeral service was held Friday at 2:30 o'clock at the tent where the big revival in Elvins is now being held and was conducted by Rev. H. W. Doss, pastor of the Elvins Methodist Church. Members of the Hervy Blaylock Post of the American Legion acted as pall-bearers. After the service interment was made in the Layne Cemetery.
Mr. Conrad leaves an aged wife, eight children: Mrs. Ransom Hahs of Sedgewickville; Frank, of Marquand; Jake of Elvins; Mrs. Amy Loberg and Mrs. Blinda Seabaugh of Patton; Edward and Jos. of Detroit; and Thos. of Flat River; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
