AGED ELVINS CITIZEN PASSED AWAY FEB 2

Wesley Carver of Elvins, Veteran of the Civil War, who would have reached the century mark had he lived until next May, passed away Saturday February 2, 1935, after a prolonged illness.

He was born May 31, 1835 and served in the Union Army under General Grant for three years, having fought in the Battle of Shiloh. He received his honorable discharge from service at the close of the war.

On November 21, 1879, he was united in marriage to Jennie Merrett and they were the parents of ten children, four of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow and six children, Mrs. Hattie McCarver, Arthur, Frank and Dan Carver of St. Louis and Mrs. Clara Henson of Elvins. Also one sister, Mrs. Betty Campbell of Fredericktown, 28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Assembly of God Church in Elvins, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. Dunn. Interment was in the Layne cemetery.
