Do you know of present day descendents of this HUNT family from St Francois and Ste Genevieve counties?

John Bert HUNT  and  Agnes Irene SHEPARD

John Bert HUNT was born 30 April 1876 in Randolph Co, IN. His parents were Miles Harper HUNT and Minerva HEATON HUNT.

John Bert [he went by 'Bert'] had these siblings: Madison, David, Oscar [my grandfather], Idabell and three others who died at early ages.

He married Agnes Irene SHEPARD 12 September 1906 in Randolph County, IN. She was born 23 December 1881 in Randolph County, IN, the daughter of Henry SHEPARD and Priscilla HARVEY SHEPARD.

John Bert is not in the 1920 MO Census nor any prior MO censuses.

The book "HUNT-DENTON Families" says of John Bert and Agnes Irene HUNT "in 1940 they were living in Elvin, Mo." This is very likely Elvins since that is close to the following known residence.

John Bert was reported to be living in Three Rivers, Ste. Genevieve County, MO in 1951 when Oscar died, according to the obituary of Oscar. The USGS Geographic Names Information System lists a Church and cemetary by that name in Ste. Genevieve County, but no village.

Do you know of this family or of how I might find cemetery gravestone listings in the Elvins or Three Rivers area that I might search?

Thanks for the help.

George HILDERBRAND was born circa 1806 in Missouri.  Rebecca HARRINGTON HILDERBRAND was born circa 1806 in Illinois.  George and Rebecca are my maternal great-great-great grandparents.

The 1880 U.S. census for Big River Township in St. Francois County listed William Daniel HARRIS as the head of family living as a farmer with his wife Margaret Ann (maiden name HILDERBRAND) and the following children: James M. Cemetery in Miami, Ottawa County, Oklahoma] [George Washington was my maternal grandfather]; William Henry later worked for the Kansas-Oklahoma-Gulf railroad; he was a Christian Scientist; William died September 10, 1946 in Denison, Texas and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery there) (William Henry is my maternal great-grandfather), Cora B. (born August 18, 1873), and John R. (born April 27, 1878). William Daniel HARRIS was born November 7, 1841 in Cumberland County, Kentucky.  His father, Drewry HARRIS, was born circa 1810 in Kentucky.  His mother, Kitty (maiden name not known) was born circa 1813 in Kentucky. William Daniel served in the Civil War (see 1850 above) and was awarded an invalid’s pension of $10 a month before January 1898 (Certificate No. 380387) for a rupture he received after being thrown onto the horn of his horse’s saddle while on a scouting mission near Tuscumbia, Alabama on March 1, 1863.  He died May 6, 1907.  See 1850 above for particulars on Margaret Ann HILDERBRAND HARRIS.  William Daniel and Margaret Ann had 5 other children: David P. I would be very interested in sharing information with anyone doing research on the Holstead family of St Francois County. Lemuel Holsted Sr. was probably from NC. He moved from NC to the Nashville TN area. He married Nancy Burnham there in 1805. Lemuel was in St Francois County by about 1813. Nancy's parents, John and Elizabeth Burnham also came to the area. John's will was proved in St Francois County in 1829. I believe the children of Lemuel and Nancy wer Any, Emelia, Nancy Lucinda, Thomas, Lemuel Jr and Benjamin. Lemuel Jr (my ancestor)moved to Searcy County ARK where he married Maranda Adams. Benjamin moved to Louisana. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who shares any of these family lines. Other children of John Burnham listed in his will are Thomas, Benjamin, John, Issac, Mary Rhoades and Betsey Jones.

WILLIAMS: There are, so I have been told, quite a lot of Williams in St. Francois Co. I have gotten photos from others of cemetery headstones, etc, so apparently they are correct. What I wonder is if anyone has any stories or family traditions or anything like that for the Williams family. Some names to think about, in the Williams line, include: John C. who died in Knob Lick in 1898, and was married to Malinda Jacobs of KY. John T., who married Mary L. Fernley, was born Oct. of 1849. Nancy Elizabeth was born Feb. 16, 1852 and married Eli P. White Nov. 1875 in St. Francois. Mary Jane or Mollie was born 1856 and married a James Gordon. Thomas Watts was born 1857 and married an Elimira Lemond or Lemon. Richard W. was born May 1859 and married an Ida Peak, and Benjamin was born about 1862. There are more, but this is enough for now. If anyone has any information or connections to the Williams family from St. Francois, I would like to hear from them. Thanks.

John Christopher Harper
21 November 1996; I am looking for several pieces of information dealing with three families of early St. Francois County: MURPHY, WALKER, and EVANS. The Rev. William MURPHY (b. 1730) and his family founded Farmington (then Murphy's Settlement) about 1800. The Rev. MURPHY's grand-daughter, Katherine MURPHY, married David EVANS in 1823. David immigrated from Ireland (apparently) and I have no information regarding his ancestry. Does anyone out there know anything about the EVANS's Irish ancestry? William Conway EVANS, the son of David and Katherine (MURPHY) EVANS, married Rachel Keturah WALKER (daughter of Laken Dubart WALKER, Sr. and Elizabeth BARTON MURPHY) in 1848. I would like to know what happened to William Conway--family lore says he was killed in the Civil War in 1863, but I have found nothing to support that. The family appears in the 1860 census as living in Arcadia Township, Iron Co., but disappear after that. I am desperately looking for anyone who has ANY information on any members of the MURPHY, WALKER or EVANS families of Farmington. I am primarily interested in the time period from 1800-1860. After the Civil War, most of my ancestors moved to Texas. I have in my possession the EVANS family Bible that lists various dates of births, deaths and marriages, but I am looking for verification and further information.
