The News is indebted to Wm. Trauernicht of Flat River for a copy of "The Enterprise," a free circulation paper, dated May 19, 1897, and published by the Houser Drug Co., at Desloge. The paper contains four 9X12 pages. The advertisers in that issue were W. C. Norwine, Flat River; Goff & Florence, Desloge; Mrs. J. Spence, Bonne Terre; Thomas P. Cook, Bonne Terre; J. Jansen, Bonne Terre; The Cuban Cigar Company, Bonne Terre; J. T. Evans, Elvins; C. P. Thomure, Desloge; Williams & Ferry, Flat River.
Among the news items was the election of teachers in Desloge as follows: J. W. Jones, principal; Misses Grace Highley, Amanda Blue and Louise Pierce, assistants.
In the Flat River items the organization of a Sunday School at the new Methodist Church was mentioned, with J. A. Inman as superintendent; Miss G. Parker, assistant superintendent; Mrs. Kate Houser, secretary-treasurer. The following teachers were selected: Miss G. Parker, Mrs. J. Dunklin, O. M. Silsby and J. C. Houser.
