LEADWOOD BOOZE JOINTS
VISITED The booze vendors at Leadwood, who are reported to have been doing a flourishing business, received visits Friday and Saturday nights from Prosecuting Attorney Mathews, Sheriff Adams and his deputy, Leslie Mitchell. The officers made a rich haul and now have stored for evidence a large quantity of both beer and whiskey. At Helen Raunich's they secured
only 1100 bottles of beer. This was on Friday night. The harvest was so good at
Helen's they decided to try the same neighborhood again Saturday night. On this
occasion they visited a joint alleged to be conducted by Charles and James Whaley.
There they gathered in 10 gallons of whiskey and 10 cases of beer. They next turned
their attention to the home of Mamie Pintar. In her cellar they located 700 empty
beer bottles and two barrels of full bottles. |
