An illicit still was discovered and raided Monday about ten miles from Leadwood by Sam Doss, W. B. McDermott and Carvel Turner. The still was located on a farm tenanted by Wm. Orsel. On the premises at the time the raid was made were Frank Dobesk, John Boyer and the wife and children of the tenant, Wm. Orsel.
A complete distilling outfit was found, consisting of one copper boiler and 15 feet of copper coil, connecting tube and one cooling keg, two barrells, each about three-fourth full, one of grape and apple mash and one of raisin mesh, also one gallon of raisin alcohol and one quart of alcohol. Barrels were found half way buried in manure in the barn. Samples were taken of the contents of each barrel and the balance destroyed.
Water for operating the still was obtained from a spring nearby. The farm is located in an isolated place almost inacessable by a car, close to the St. Francois and Washington County line on the old Summitt road.
Dobesk, who is alleged to be the owner of the still was taken to Desloge, where he was turned over to U.S. revenue officer from St. Louis.
