RIVER & BONNE TERRE RAILROAD |

The four unidentified men above are standing in front of a Siesta Passenger Coach belonging to the Mississippi River & Bonne Terre Railroad (a/k/a M.R.B.T.). This photo was contributed to us by Marvin Ringer. From right to left, Mr. Ringer believes that these men were probably the Station Master, Conductor, Mechanic/Laborer, and Porter. The Mississippi River & Bonne Terre originally ran from Riverside south to Doe Run (see schedule below). According to George Drury's Historical Guide, the MR & BT Railroad was owned by the St. Joseph Lead Company. Then, in 1929, the Missouri-Illinois leased the MRBT and the MP [Missouri Pacific] bought 51% of the MI [Missouri-Illinois], which it merged in 1978. Saint Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern was formed in 1874 by merging the St. Louis & Iron Mountain and the Cairo & Fulton. In 1917 the St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern and the Missouri Pacific Railway were merged to form the Missouri Pacific Railroad. |
