The Senior play was "Take It Easy" directed by Mrs. Watts. Most of the boys sported large mustaches. The cast included: Evelyn Hartman, Velma Turley, Neil Umfleet, Ed Schwent, Dain Ward, Ruth Fissell, Chalmer Forsythe, Madonna Thomas, Clark Dalton, and Jack Burns. The Senior Trip was to the Gulf Coast, Mrs. Watts and Mr. George Pallo were the faculty sponsors. One of the highlights of the year was when their basketball team, the Pirates, defeated their "arch rivals" Flat River in a come-from-behind 46-43 victory. The Korean War is now in full swing and a new threat called "radioactive fallout" hung over all their lives. Also, as far as the boys were concerned, the threat of being drafted made it hard to plan for their future lives after graduation. Many had friends or family members who were fighting in Korea and some had been killed or were prisoners of war. |
