THE CLASS OF 2005 MARCHES

The graduates of the Farmington High School Class of 2005 made their way from what would soon be their alma-mater to a packed Farmington Civic Center on Saturday evening.

It was standing room only at the civic center for the event. The graduates filed into the ceremony under the strains of "Pomp and Circumstance," with everyone working to get the best view of the students.

Heather Probst, Student Council president, gave the welcome for the ceremony.

"This is the day of extending our gratitude. The people who care and made a difference in our life are right here, right now," she said. "You have been faithful advocates in our ongoing journey."

Special recognition was given to graduates who will be entering the military upon graduation. Dr. David Waters, high school principal, added this class was in its first year of high school when the event of Sept. 11, 2001 occurred. Those students were presented with a special medallion.

The Knight of the Year award was presented to Claire Robinson. This award is voted on by the staff at the high school and Dr. Waters praised Robinson as a "bright and energetic student."

The senior class selected Dean of Students and Communication Arts instructor Jamie LaMonds as the commencement speaker. LeMonds said she has learned "forgiveness, optimism, altruism, diversity, and diligence" from the class.

Valedictorian Jessica Brewer recounted the life lessons she had received during her time at Farmington High School and cited the Bible verse Jeremiah 29:11 as a guide.

Salutatorian was Derick Miranda. Rounding out the top 10 in the class were Jennifer Crouch, John Seaber, Jordan Varble, Rachel Fuller, Chelsea Johnson, Bethany Ernst, Caroline Crecelius, and John Roark.

Dr. Waters also recognized students who had received scholarships and noted this class had $1.7 million in renewable scholarships awarded to them.

Senior class President Katie Edney gave special thanks to the teachers who "worked so hard." She challenged the junior class to "go out today, tomorrow, next week and say thank you to someone who has helped you in some way."

In the Junior Response, Bradley Green thanked the class of 2005 for their leadership and stated "now is our time to step out and live up to the high standards" set by the graduates.

Hai Tran, an exchange student from Vietnam, thanked the Farmington community for the welcome he and his fellow exchange students received during their time in Farmington.

Under the direction of Kurt Bauche, The Farmington High School Band performed Pomp and Circumstance during the processional, and the Star Spangled Banner. The Farmington High School Air Force ROTC Color Guard presented the colors.

The A Cappela Choir performed "You're the One I Need," and the Men of the Choraliers sang "I Will Never Pass This Way Again." Sue Bauche directed the singers, and Barbara Towler provided accompaniment.

Faculty members wore the cap and gown from the college from which they graduated along with the colors that indicate their field of study.
