The Barton School, a two-room rural school located between Esther and Farmington, was closed last Friday by order of the County Health Department, until such time as necessary sanitary improvements are made which will bring health conditions up to the standards established by the state public health laws.
Dr. W. W. Johnston, county health physician, reported to the News that he very much regretted being forced to take drastic action, but that out buildings, water supply, drinking water arrangements and other conditions covered by sanitation statutes were being ignored, that repeated requests to have these conditions remedied brought no response. He therefore closed the school last week until the improvements are made. The directors immediately put men to work on the necessary jobs, and the school will be reopened with the least possible delay.
