There has been but little change in the labor situation here during the past few days. The different shafts are working about half time, but no new men are being employed. One thing that has seriously handicapped all efforts toward an amicable adjustment has been the lack of organization on the part of the men. This feature, however, is now showing some indication of clearing up. Committees of the employees of at least two companies have made a careful canvass of the situation at all of the shafts operated by these companies, and have reported that the men are unanimous in agreeing that the foreigners be permitted to work as shovelers.
Reports from Leadwood, Bonne Terre and Desloge indicate that there is no longer any trouble there, so far as can be judged from outward appearances. At St. Francois, the St. Louis Smelting & Refining Company has some foreigners at work underground. No foreigners are working at Flat River or Elvins.
