PECK'S BISMARK ITEMS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 1877

Ed. Register --

For once I am happy -- gloriously elated! Our town is incorporated at last. So that our venerable citizen who said that it would be ruled by city dads "in spite of frost, cold, high water or h--l," whipped pretty close to the truth. But what tickles me so much, is my good chances for getting to be the mayor. You see I'm going to run on the Whig ticket, as I wrote you before, and since the great New York Herald has published the obituaries of the Democratic and Republican parties, of course I'll win.

Since "Brick" Pomeroy came through here and said that our town would one day be a city and that our people here-abouts could get rich by picking and marketing blackberries, everybody you meet has a smile of satisfaction on his countenance. They feel that they are not too far West, but are yet within reach of advisers, who know more about their affairs than they do themselves.

And still another! What? Why, a saloon, most certainly. This town has only five in full blast and all well patronized; but in justice to my future constituency, I will say that their custom is almost entirely transient.

The Paraphernalia of the new mill is on the site, and the work of construction will be pushed forward with a vim, quite characteristic of the proprietor, Mr. Myers.

A new drug store has been established here by Mr. Kirkpatrick. He informed me, the other day, that he contemplated manufacturing a superior quality of Buck Bitters -- an antidote for chills and rejuvenator for defeated municipal candidates. He'll likely have a pressing demand for them.

The Amateur Knights will give their second entertainment at this place on the 4th of July. Among other premiums, one is the honor of crowning the Goddess of Liberty. I was told the other day that there would doubtless be a number of disappointed "ancient maidens" on that day, but if they knew I wrote you this, I would get a shower of anathemas on my head.

I. S. PECK.
