C. FLOYD. A BISMARCK PIONEER -- Frank MANTER, Assistant General Freight Agent of the Santa Fe lines, was here in his special car last Friday. With him were his father, Capt. MANTER, of Chicago, the Captain's oldest daughter, Mrs. BONSON of Dubuque, Ia., and his youngest daughter, Miss Kate MANTER. The party left Chicago Oct. 5 and have been making a tour of Mexico. Capt. MANTER is well known here as he was one of the pioneers of Bismarck, which he surveyed and platted in 1868. He was engaged in the mercantile business here for years but afterwards moved to Chicago, where he now resides. We acknowledge a pleasant call from the Captain and hope to have the pleasure of meeting him again. The party returned to Chicago from St. Louis via the Wabash. The A.O.U.W. lodge served oysters in their lodge room last Saturday evening and met with deserved success. There was a constant stream of patrons during the evening and a most enjoyable time was had by all who attended. There was plenty of good music, some good speaking and much good cookery in evidence. The net proceeds amounted to about twenty dollars. SURPRISE PARTY -- The members of the local lodge Degree of Honor enjoyed a delightful evening at the home of Mrs. T. H. BARRETT last Friday, it being the 50th anniversary of the birth of that estimable lady and fellow lodge member. It was a surprise party and the visitors brought with them a handsome token of their esteem for the hostess -- a beautifully decorated tea set and water set. Mrs. BELCHAMBER presented Mrs. BARRETT with an elegant [jardenere?] and Mrs. F. F. BEARD sent a handsome mustard jar; other presents were also received. Ice cream, cake and fruit were served during the evening. Thirty guests were present.
