AUSTIN, pastor of the M.E. church came to take charge of his work here, he is stopping with the family of John BORING. Our old friend, F. M. PRIEST, who is sojourning in Klamath Falls, Oregon, has a very entertaining account of his journey westward in today's Gazette. Wm. SEBASTIAN of Libertyville has been visiting his son, W. S. SEBASTIAN of this city; he went home Monday to vote the democratic ticket. He is in his 90th year and has been voting the democratic ticket since he became of age. Dr. W. R. GOODYKOONTS of Caledonia was here the other day visiting his daughter, Mrs. Tom HOLMAN. The east and west sides of Butler's store have been decorated with some immense signs this week. The work is quite artistic and attracts a deal of attention to the Selz shoe, the "sole" of honor and to Butler's, of course. The presiding elder preached a most interesting sermon at the M.E. Church, South, last Sabbath evening. The attendance was large and all seemed much interested in the discourse. Owing to sickness in the family [of] the presiding elder, the conference meeting was postponed and due notice will be given of the time of holding same. Tuesday being election day, was a legal holiday and the bank was closed. The saloons also remained closed until after the closing of the polls. T. B. WHITWORTH, late of this place but who is for the present located in Fredericktown, was back among his friends in Bismarck on Tuesday. Mrs. Chas. TOWNSEND of Belgrade was visiting the families of Jake BARGER and Peter WOOLFORD several days this week. Mr. BARGER and family and Mrs. TOWNSEND paid a visit to relatives in Bonneterre Sunday. Reports have it that a new bank has been organized at Frankclay. The stock has been subscribed and arrangements for the building, which will be a neat and substantial brick structure with a lodge room overhead. Mr. MALCOMB of DeSoto expects to open a furniture and undertaking establishment in Bismarck within the next two weeks, and will occupy the old Tullock building on the West side. The building is now being put in shape for occupancy. FOR RENT -- New 6-room house. Inquire of Mrs. E. CHAMBERLAIN. Royer's jewelry store has come in for a genteel coat of green with white trimming, and it and the post office building are putting on a whole lot of airs in their new clothes. We call the attention of all who are interested in school work to the report of Prof. FLOYD on the work of the High School department for the month of October. The atten- dance for the month was almost perfect and the grades satisfactory. Dr. J. L. EATON and wife took rooms at the hotel for the winter and rented the lower part of their dwelling to Wm. RUDDOCK. The Doctor will continue to occupy his office as at present until spring, when he will erect a two-story brick adjoining the hotel on the south, the lower story to be used for his office. A hobo played a new game in Bismarck last week. He did not ask for cash or a meal -- all he wanted was a pair of socks. Of course some gave him old socks and some cash to buy a pair. Wonder how many socks and how much cash he got? At any rate there must have been a lot of misfits in the outfit.
