Mr. and Mrs. Paul TAYLOR and Mr. and Mrs. Myron CLARK of St.
Louis spent Saturday night and Sunday here visiting Mrs. CLARK's and Mr. TAYLOR's mother,
Mrs. Laura TAYLOR, and their sister, Mrs. Louie SUMMERS and family, and other relatives
and friends. The fire department was summoned to the Chas. ROSENSTENGEL property, occupied by the Bert EDWARDS family, Monday noon when a spark from the flue set fire to the wood shingle roof. The damage was insignificant. Mr. and Mrs. Louie SUMMERS were business visitors in Poplar Bluff on Sunday. FOR SALE -- Electric washer, in good condition. Mrs. Ed. CANTER, Bismarck, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. D. LAYTON are spending the week with Charleston relatives. Misses Mary Ann WARD and Gula PYRTLE spent the week-end in Belleville, Ill., with Sgt. and Mrs. Lloyd McGEORGE. Rev. Wm. WALTERS, pastor of the Flat River Christian Church, visited Mrs. F. W. GALE on Wednesday. Maybe there's something to that groundhog yarn after all. Wm. RANDALL has purchased the Ann McANDREWS home. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. PYLE came home Wednesday from Grayson, Louisiana, where they spent most of the winter. Miss Annalea WELKER returned to St. Louis this (Friday) morning much improved from her recent illness. Gervis LESTER purchased the grocery and meat market located in the J. F. Schroeder building, from Bill BARR the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Claude EVANS of Flat River were business visitors here on Wednesday. They also visited Mrs. Jessie WELKER. They are leaving Flat River and will make their home in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer WALLER and children of Desloge spent Tuesday here at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. DARNELL. Miss Virginia STRADER of St. Louis spent several days here the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. STRADER, and other relatives. Roy Lynn PILLIARD of Columbia was a week-end visitor here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. PILLIARD. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. RAGSDALE of St. Louis spent the week-end here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John RAGSDALE and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. BLANTON. FOR SALE -- 9 pc. dining room suite; Duncan Phyfe table, buffet, china closet and 6 chairs. Edw. [Edward] BEARD, Jr. J. SCHEIHING was involved in an auto accident Sunday afternoon when his car and an out-of-town car collided at Highway 32 and Cedar street. Fenders and bumpers were the extent of the casualties. Mrs. T. H. COXEY is spending the week with St. Louis relatives. Walter SINCLAIR is erecting a house in the north end of town. Mrs. John McHENRY and son were brought to their home here from the Ironton Hospital on Monday. BAKE SALE -- Saturday afternoon, March 1st, in Wright Bldg. Sponsored by the Garden Club. Mrs. F. W. GALE was taken to the Ironton Hospital on Sunday. Gordon PERRY, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert PERRY of near Bismarck, has been advanced to seaman, first class, while serving at the Naval Port Facilities in Shanghai, China. PERRY entered the Naval service on March 22, 1946, and received his recruit training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Calif. Mrs. G. F. WALTHER of Cape Girardeau enjoys an enviable reputation for skill in arranging flowers. She has consented to conduct an exhibition demonstration for the next in the series of such demonstrations being sponsored by the Lead Belt Garden Club at the library at Flat River. The time is 2:30, March 4th. No charges for admission, everybody welcome. District Superintendent, Dr. S. B. EDMONDSON, will preach at the Methodist Church Sunday, Mar. 2, 1947, at 10:30 a.m. The Quarterly Conference will be held immediately following the preaching service. FOR SALE -- 5-room house, 2 lots, in Bismarck. See Mrs. C. E. EGGERS. Mrs. Edgar THORPE of Flat River spent Saturday here with her mother, Mrs. Rena MASSEY. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph EDMONDS of Maplewood spent last week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mont EDMONDS. Freeman DURHAM, William SIMANE and W. A. SLOAN were visitors in Ironton Monday afternoon. While there, they visited Mrs. DURHAM and Mrs. F. W. GALE at St. Mary's Hospital. |
