ELVINS ITEMS:
Sam SPARKS is in St. Louis seeking employment.

Rev. J. L. GRAY and wife spent several days of last and this week in St. Louis, visiting.

Mrs. Grace BROWN of Fort Worth, Texas, is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. G. W. TIDWELL.

Gus LEE, of near town, is, we are sorry to note, numbered among the sick this week.

Peter PROPST who has had a severe attack of pneumonia, is reported to be improving.

Mrs. Harry POWELL is very sick this week. She is suffering from a severe case of pneu-
monia.

Mrs. H. A. MILLER and daughter are spending the week in St. Louis the guests of relatives
and friends.

Deputy Constable Jasper THOMURE of Desloge attended legal business in Elvins Tuesday of
this week.

Miss Pearl SHANNON returned last Friday from St. Louis where she had spent several days
as the guest of friends.

Geo. CRAWFORD is numbered among those suffering from pneumonia. We are glad, however,
to note he is improving.

Dallas McALLISTER is numbered among the sick this week, but we understand he is slightly
improving at this writing.

Presiding Elder H. P. CROWE filled the pulpit of the M. E. Church, South, last Sunday
in the absence of the pastor, Rev. J. L. GRAY.

We are very sorry to chronicle the news that Miss Maude RUNK is very sick this week.
She has been confined to her room for several days, threatened with pneumonia.

Ben ABRAM, Meyer NUDELMAN, of Miller Bros. store of Flat River and H. A. MILLER, drove
over to Leadwood in H. A. MILLER's automobile and spent Sunday with friends and relatives.

Deputy Sheriff BROWN of Farmington spent Tuesday in town on legal business. He has
succeeded Ex-Deputy Sheriff ADAMS, who recently resigned the office to enable him to
change climate in guest of better health for his wife.

Last Thursday a team belonging to the Schramm Bottling Co., became scared and ran
away on Main Street, but after having gone only a short distance, ran into a telephone
pole which stopped them. Fortunately no serious damage was done.

Geo. DOWNARD of our town and Jack MADIGAN of Leadwood are papering the new residence
of Phil MAURICE and doing some painting for the Baker Lead Co. at their new shaft near
here. The work of these two gentlemen is too well known to need any recommendation
at our hands for they always do it just right.

Elvins Modern Woodman Camp No. 7156 extends a cordial invitation to the members of
neighboring camps to attend their installation exercises, Tuesday night, January 16.
If you are a Royal Neighbor and your husband is not a Woodman, come and bring him
along. On the other hand, if you are a Woodman and your wife is not a Royal Neighbor,
come and bring her with you. You are both invited just the same. Supper will be
served free and a good time is assured all who attend.

Some two or three weeks before local option carried in the county and in Elvins, a
number of the "wet" workers pointed to the number of empty houses of our city and
predicted that that was only an inkling of what would happen after the "drys" had
won--if it would be possible for them to do so. But what a difference? The county
went dry--our saloons are all out of business and there are scores of men with
families who want to move to Elvins but cannot get houses. There is not a dwelling
house vacant in Elvins and but very few business houses. The "drys" are certainly
proving their point that a "dry" city makes an ideal place in which to live.
