THE FLAT
RIVER MOVIES PARK HILLS, MISSOURI (formerly Flat River, Missouri) |
Im sorry to tell you this, but the theater is closing on Nov. 28, 2010, Mayor Easter said. An employee at the theater said that AMC had not officially announced the closing, but that the last show at the theater will be Nov. 28. About a half dozen theater employees will be let go and will have to reapply if they want to work in the Farmington theaters. Harry Tucker, Bates, Ed Higgins and L.B. Hise started the theater - called the Roseland - in 1917. Farmington Amusement Company bought the Roseland in 1921 and talkies first appeared at the Park Hills theater on New Years Day, 1930. Kerasotes Theatres bought the Roseland in 1974, renamed it and owned the movie theater until recently, when AMC purchased the companys theater in Park Hills as well as the ones in Farmington. Note: The above is from an article which was published in the Daily Journal of Park Hills, Missouri, on Nov. 17, 2010. The above photos were taken on the final day of operation - Nov. 28, 2010. |
